More 2,300 unaccompanied children have fled unrest in Burundi in the last six weeks, the charity “SAVE THE CHILDREN”says.
Most of the children have travelled often on foot to Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.
“We are hugely concerned for the welfare of those risking this arduous journey, especially when seeing such young children arriving in the camps. Many are arriving without shoes and nothing but the clothes they are wearing,” said Edwin Kuria, operations manager for “SAVE THE CHILDREN” in East Africa.
